Renovation, expansion and extension for a day care centre, an old peoples home and a Hospice

Support for a daycare centre for children, and old peoples home and a hospice.

Funcation Canaria Hospital de la Inmaculada.
In Teneriffe, the sisters of “Congregacion Hijas de Maria Inmaculata Madre de la Iglesia” have been providing humanitarian, social and medial assistance for over 111 years.
The Sisterhood was founded in 1816, in a time when Spain suffered as a result of colonisation, cholera and Civil War.
At the time the present day Hopital de la Inmaculada was the only hospital in Puerto de la Cruz and surroundings that took in the sick, the poor and the disabled of all ages, as well as looking after orphans. Today the hospital funtions as an old peoples home and a hospice.
In 1987 The sisters opened an additional hospital, the “Centro Educativo Matilde Tellez”. Initially the Centro Matilde Tellez was a childrens home as well as a social centre for children in need. Today it is a day centre for socially disadvantaged children, children who need care, and children from problem families, and offers help with school work, social projects, provides meals after school (a snack or a full meal) and solutions to individual needs.
At the moment the the Social Services sends 14 children to the after school care.
The centre also provides care for pre-schoolers, ie those who go to kindergarten or nursery. They open their doors from 8:00 to 16:30, and the team consists of 5 Kindergarten teachers, a cook, several cleaning staff, volunteer helpers and the Sisters.
Since the beginning of the economic crisis of 2007 the Sisters of “Congregacion Hijas de Maria InmaculataMadre de la Iglesia” are reliant on donations and private financial support in order to carry out their work in Puerto de La Cruz.
